Festive events for City Day. Museum of History "Lefortovo"

This weekend the capital will celebrate its 870th birthday. In honor of this event, dozens, if not hundreds of entertainment events will take place.

The theme of the holiday will be reflected in the motto: “Moscow is the city where history is made,” dedicated to the outstanding contribution of our city and its residents to Russian and world heritage. The large-scale program, organized by the Moscow Department of Culture, will traditionally take place over 2 days. Residents and guests of the capital will enjoy concerts, excursions, photo exhibitions, theatrical performances and much more.

The capital's parks have prepared programs in various directions. Guests of the events will be able to plunge into the atmosphere of Moscow in the 60-70s, see the best theatrical productions of the capital's theaters, and collect models spacecraft and take part in “folk karaoke”.

Also, in honor of the holiday, on September 9 and 10, Moscow museums and parks will hold more than 200 free excursions. More than 80 museums will take part in the project, exhibition halls, parks and galleries. It is planned that about 6,000 people will attend the excursions.

Residents and guests of the capital can enjoy walks along the central streets and ancient estates, bicycle and scooter excursions, trips on the Moscow Central Circle and by boat on the Moscow River and much more. Free excursions are organized as part of the “Moscow Excursion” project, which is supervised by the Moscow Department of Culture and MOSGORTUR.

Red Square

The gathering of guests will begin from 10:00 to 11:30, a total of 7,500 people are invited to Red Square, among them honorary citizens of Moscow, veterans, representatives of public and youth organizations, officials, ambassadors of foreign states, participants in the “Active Citizen” project.

Traditionally, the opening ceremony on Red Square will kick off all festive events; it will begin on September 9 at 12:00 and will be broadcast live to all city venues. At 13:00 – the citywide musical start of the holiday to the sounds of the Moscow anthem.

The event program will be based on performances dedicated to the 870th anniversary of the city. Arbat

On City Day, Arbat will unfold inter-museum festival. It will take place on the stage near the Yevgeny Vakhtangov Theater - on the so-called Dog Playground, which disappeared in 1962 during the construction of Kalinin Avenue.

The festival will tell the story of this unique place and the adjacent Arbat alleys - the space of life of the Moscow aristocracy, as well as famous writers and poets, philosophers and musicians.

The cultural program includes: walking tours, lectures by famous historians and literary scholars, creative meetings with actors and writers, concerts of classical and jazz music, presentation of the book “What Composers Say About Scriabin Today” and much more.

An exhibition curated by historian Anna Esparza will tell about the cultural and historical topography of the Dog Playground and its “heroes through the centuries.” The exhibition will feature materials from the collections of the A.V. The “Good Moscow” festival is a solemn event and a big city holiday, which will draw attention to the socially significant problems of the capital and show that everyone can help people by doing good deeds.

Foundations and public organizations will present their activities to city residents in the format of an exhibition, where everyone will be able to take part in master classes or buy goods made by foundation wards at the fair. The money collected from renting space at the market will be donated to charitable foundations.
